I Can't Help Myself!

EDIT 07.25.2007 : In an effort to maintain some symbolence of peace around here, I have removed the names of people and places from the post below. I still say, it wouldn't matter what this guy was selling, discussing, promoting, etc. He could be promoting worship, selling Amway or discussing woodworking...it wouldn't matter. I'm not taking him serious looking like that. If he had some type of deformity, etc. that would be one thing, but he did this on purpose!

When somebody lobs you a softball like this one, you just HAVE to wack the snot out of it!!!

One of the people pictured below is--from what I've been able to put together--an author of several books related to the emerging church (and no I haven't read any of them). It seems he is also looked to as an authority on worship--particularly in emerging churches. He recently appeared at a "church conference." I had never heard of this man before now. The only way I know about him is because of a this video on YouTube that was linked from another blog I frequent.

I didn't watch all of the video. I couldn't. I could not get past the hairdo!!! And I know--because it's already happened--that this man's fans will scream bloody murder over my comments (if they read them), but really now--WHAT DOES HE/THEY EXPECT?! How in the world does an ADULT walk out of the house looking like this and think: "Man, my 'do' is looking goooooood today!"

To the people that will see this and be offended, may I offer the following: If you REALLY want to be taken just a little bit serious...DO NOT WALK OUT OUT OF YOUR HOUSE LOOKING LIKE THIS!

Call me "mean", call me whatever you want, but I can't help myself on this one. One YouTube commentor said: "Oh for pity's sake, just put a gun to my head..." I feel your pain, brother!

Keith,

This is so shallow that I think it false advertising you state “I am a thinker.” LOL!

But, then I guess “Deep calls to deep” so I guess that you prefer the shallow end.

Judging others by their hair seems rather juvenile as scripture states that self control is a fruit of the Spirit... I would hope you would rather bear God's fruit that show your rotten fruit like this to all.

Be Blessed,
iggy

To quote that great theologian, Bill Murray: "Lighten up, Francis!"

Like it or not, you don't walk out in public like that without expecting SOME comment. Come on! That hairdo screams: "LOOK AT ME!" All I'm saying is, ...nope... I've changed my mind. I'm not going to get into a discussion. It's not productive.

Thanks for stopping by.

Perhaps someone should tell Keith that his son’s glasses looks, well, very Rob Bellish. Rob Bell is a "cool pastor."

You might also want to look at 2 Kings 2:23-25 for what happens to those who make fun of someone for their hair issues. :)

That was BALD people, not spikey-haired people.

Keith,

You seem to not care at all that you demean and put down and mar others reputations...

Then you say, "lighten up"...

You mock God and seem to love sin.

I am confused i thought you were professing being a Christian?

I never heard of a fruit of the spirit called, "I can't help myself"...

Sociopath... maybe but not Christian.

I think you need to reconsider if you are a Christian by name or if you actually believe in the bible s teachings against the things you do on this blog.

Be Blessed,
iggy

Keith,
I'm with ya all the way. It reminds me of the kids at the mall wearing pants that hang halfway down their hips or dyeing their hair green. They are screaming, "Look at me!" If his message is deserving of attention, you don't need to make a fashion statment. But if he has to draw attention to himself to get other people to hear him, something's wrong with the message. Just my humble opinion. :)

Thanks Bart. As you can see, some of the others don't see it that way. I guess this guy must be pretty "high up" there since "mocking" him is the equivalent of "mock[ing] God" (Iggy's assessment).

A commenter on another blog said: "If they knew anything about [this guy] they would realize that his hairstyle is influenced by his love for Rockabilly music and culture..." I've recently become enamored with Scottish music and culture--do you think it would be OK for me to show up at my next business meeting dressed like this?

So what sub-culture should we dress like and keep our hair like to fit in enough for your standards? What does "serious hair" look like to you?

Apparantly I missed a rule book somewhere on hairstyle and fasion!

These things are not always a "look at me thing" or an attention getter, they may be a reflection of a sub-culture like a badge of identity (like someone wearing a sports jersey because they like sports or someone wearing a shell necklace because they used to live down the shore)

I remember when I used to have blue hair it was never an attention thing, it was that my grandma liked it and so did my girlfriend so I wanted to look nice for the two most important women in my life...

If your grandma and your girlfriend liked it, then it must be right. That's always been my rule of thumb...unless of course your hair makes you look like Jimmy Neutron, then I just have to assume you've been a victim of cranial liposuction.

Thanks for stopping by.

I see iggy has found you and immediately done exactly what he claims real Christians never do-judge you. How in the world does he get from you laughing at a hair style ( a very silly one, I might add) to accusing you of mocking God and loving sin? Familiar territory with iggy. Rational people do their best to ignore iggy. So far, you're doing great with him.

Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, Iggy is an interesting "study." He seems to really have it in for Ken Silva (whom I've never met). It's like Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon with him. No matter what the topic, he'll be on Ken Silva within three posts!

Thanks for the welcome, Keith. I like what I see here. I don't "know" Ken Silva, either, but I communicate with him occasionally. I generally agree with him. Looks like you do, too.
I've had my own run-ins with iggy. I think he has a thing for people named "Jim".:-) If you're familiar with "Old Truth", iggy had quite the duel going on with Jim Bublitz. He has also gone around with Tony at Galc4v16. He also can't stand John MacArthur. I guess I'd better not say any more, he'll hunt me down and accuse me of something. Enjoy the blog. Keep up the good work.
