speaking of hilary, brings up an interesting conversation i had a few weeks ago with some buddies of mine. where does the church's responsibility to the poor, needy, etc. end and the government step in? is welfare a bad idea? even for the people who obviously take advantage of the system? some ideas that were proposed went like this: 1.)the church should only take care of those who show forth a desire to make their own way. i.e. slackers need not apply. 2.) the church has the responsibility to take care of EVERYONE. regardless of whether or not they are taking advantage. does the biblical mandate to care for the poor stop at helping those who show a desire to help themselves? just something to chew on...
