On a Lighter Note

Nothing serious to write about today. Got the following in an email and unless you're from Oklahoma (or Arkansas, the south, etc.), you may not "get it." I have lived in Oklahoma all my life...sadly, this stuff makes sense to me. If you can't laugh at yourself from time to time, well then...

Things I've Learned Living in Oklahoma
Author Unknown

  • Armadillos sleep in the middle of the road with all four feet in the air.
  • A tractor is NOT an all terrain vehicle. They do get stuck.
  • The wind blows at 90 mph from Oct 2 'til June 25; then it stops totally until October 2.
  • "Onced" and "twiced" are words.
  • "Coldbeer" is one word.
  • People actually grow and eat okra.
  • When you live in the country you don't have to buy a dog. City people drop them off at your front gate in the middle of the night.
  • "Fixin'-to" is one word.
  • There ain't no such thing as "lunch". There is only breakfast, dinner, and then there's supper.
  • "Backwards and forwards" means I know everything about you.
  • "Jeet?" is actually an inquiry into your dining habits.
  • You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.
  • Stores don't have bags. They have sacks.
  • You see cars with the engine running in the Wal-Mart parking lot with no one in them, no matter what time of the year it is.
  • All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit or a vegetable.
  • You only have four spices in your kitchen: Salt, Pepper, Ketchup, and Tabasco.
  • You know what "cow tipping" and "snipe hunting" are.
  • The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require six pages to cover Friday night high school football.
  • The first day of deer season is a state holiday.
  • Going to Wal-Mart is a favorite past-time known as "goin' off to Wally-world."
  • A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola, or pop....It's a Coke, regardless of brand or flavor.

Keith,

:-) That is funny. By-the-way, I am from Oklahoma. I should have put two and two together when you mentioned you pastor "Bill" Ascol. I automatically assumed you were talking about "Tom" Ascol. So do you live in Owasso? Isn't that where Bill ministers?

Yes. I'm at Bethel in Owasso. Bro Bill came in the fall of 2005. What a blessing! I teach an adult Sunday School class; I'm also the administrator of the church website.

Keith,

I am so glad to meet you! My wife and I lived in Bixby from February 2000 to September 2001 when God moved us to the Kansas City area. We were members of First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow. That church was way too big. :-) Anyway, I am an Okie. I grew up on Purcell and Yukon. Most of my family still lives there.

I heard Brother Bill on some Internet Radio broadcast last year sometime. I think it was on James White's broadcast along with Tom Ascol as they prepared to debate the Caners (which never happened).

In any case, thanks for visiting Possessing the Treasure and thanks for the links brother.

In Christ
