It's Like This
I've been trying to talk with some people¹ about a particular topic, but it seems almost impossible to get a straight answer.
It's like trying to do THIS!
¹ I don't want to name names...but they belong to a church movement that begins with "e" and ends in "mergent."

May I ask the topic?
Yes you may...but (judging from what I read on your blog) yoiu probably wouldn't like or agree with my take on it. Fair warning: I'm not emergent friendly, I think the Pryro posters are hilarious, I just received an email from Ken Silva not a hour ago (no, we're not best buds, but we have corresponded a time or two), I read the Slice blog everyday and rarely find anything offensive there, I've never read nor intend to read anything by Brian McLaren, Rob Bell, or Mark Driscoll (to name a few), and I've already made up my mind about most things (I'm almost 50; what good would it do to change now?), but I do appreciate you stopping by.
Oh, the topic: basically the definition of "predestination."
Keith,
I am disappointed that you find the posters hilarious. Oh well.
I also don't desire to change your mind. I just want to buck the Jello trend you are experiencing from the unnamed "emergents" you are trying to pin down.
The definition I was taught (I grew up cofC): the belief that God has predetermined the outcome of all people. The implication was that it has already been decided who will and who won't be saved.
My take on the issue: it doesn't matter. Either God has planned everything out or He hasn't. Either way I live according to His teaching and try my best to be like Jesus.
May I ask which "people" you were asking?
Todd: I am assuming CofC means: Church of Christ. I came out of a Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement Christian Church and they definitely would not have agreed with your definition of "predestination." In fact, you stated essentially what I believe.
The "people" were the good folks at CRN.Info and the topic was basically labels, e.g. Pelagian, Semi-Pelagian, Arminian, Calvinist, etc. Here's the link if you're interested.
I don't know that I can go along with your "either God has it planned or He doesn't" approach. I think Scripture is pretty clear that He has.
I do too. I just don't think it matters if someone else doesn't.
And yes, c of C is church of Christ. :)
That's quite a few caveats you list before getting to the question at hand. Why not just state the question?
Because, as a quick-witted, sometimes referred to as smart-aleck, artist myself...I take my caveats seriously.
Crud...now I forgot the question.
To usome.com: I really don't know how to respond to that. I can't read it.
