Hot Church

According to this video (it's real), the way to determine if your church is "hot" and doesn't s**k :

  • The pastor is good looking
  • The pastor can play ball
  • The pastor's wife "is too hot for him to have."
  • YOU can find a "hot wife!"
Thanks to A Little Leaven for the video link.

Jesus came to seek and find a really hot wife. -- First Emergent 3:16 (from the New We Do Church More Relevant Than You version. Coming to a bookstore near you.)

Since when does saying the pastor has a hot wife constitute as "blasphemy"?

"Since when?...today around 10:27AM. Didn't you read the time stamp?

Thanks for stopping by.

It's terrifying that one Calvinist blog can determine what is and isn't blasphemous at the drop of a hat or the click of a "publish."

Gee. Silly me. I didn't know you were supposed to pick a church by how "hot" the pastor's wife is. I also didn't know that a church was supposed to function as a dating service. That video says a lot about the state of young people today. No substance. Too hung up on visual aspects. Too material. It's sad.

Oh, come on, Todd. Don't get your BVD's all in a twist. It's just one "calvinist blog" and you're probably only one out of a handful that reads it anyway.

I'll tell you what's terrifying: that City Church may actually entice some poor, unsuspecting soul into attending their "church" where they might be indoctrinated with that tripe!

Would you feel better if I had labeled it "asinine" or "idiotic?"

Much better. Blasphemy seems like a heavy word to throw around so lightly.

I hate to tell you this, but that tripe is just "humor" - not doctrine. While it's not that funny, many of my friends - both Christian and non - joke about how our wives are too hot for us. We even joke about how going to Christian school was the good move for us because we got much hotter wives than we could have if we went to a secular school. We're not promoting doctrine.

Todd: You're also not promoting "church"--the body of Christ--which is what the video IS doing. Big difference.

The video is asinine, idiotic AND blasphemous (i.e. irreverant). I said "IF I had labeled..." I have no intention of changing it.

What I saw in that video was an invitation to go to that church and "lust" after the pastor's wife. "Don't you wish your girlfriend was HOT like ME?" What is that in a video designed to invite people to a HOLY AND RIGHTEOUS GOD in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation? What about words like...Eph 5:27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.

Col 1:22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach--

1 Pet 1:15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all {your} behavior;

I Peter 3:1Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 3Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. 4Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. 5For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, 6like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

That's just a small sampling of a whole lot more encouragement to live and act in a way that GLORIFIES Christ. And about "blasphemous" wasn't David accused of giving the enemies of the Lord a reason to blaspheme God by his sinful actions? (II Sam. 12:14) Therefore, we are capable of the same thing by our actions for them to be blasphemous.
